Hi everyone, I’m back with the second entry in the October Daye series. It’s shaping up to become one of my favorite Urban Fantasy/Mystery series. It’s Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire!
Plot Synopsis: October “Toby” Daye is a changeling, the daughter of Amandine of the fae and a mortal man. Like her mother, she is gifted in blood magic, able to read what has happened to a person through a mere taste of blood.
Half-human, half-fae, outsiders from birth, most changelings are second-class children of Faerie, spending their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations. Toby is the only changeling who has earned knighthood, and she re-earns that position every day, undertaking assignments for her liege, Sylvester, the Duke of the Shadowed Hills.
Plot: This entry starts off with one of the most entertaining scenes I’ve seen in writing in a while. Toby is completely drunk and walking back from a night of drinking with friends. It was really funny. As for the rest of the book it’s pretty great, it’s got all the mystery I could want while being entertaining. We also get introduced into more of the Fae world by being introduced to more characters from various subspecies.

Characters: Toby, Sylvester, and Quentin are the main returning characters from the previous entry, although we get to see my favorite Tybalt for a bit. Of the newcomers I think I like April the most.
Overall: An excellent sequel to the first book, this is looking to be a great series.
