Sports Bore

As a sports fan, I hate this time of year. I mean, the summer is absolutely boring for anyone who likes sports. Even my watching baseball is starting to wane away. On my return trip from Wednesday night's 4-1 Pirate victory against the Colorado Rockies, I heard on the news that the possible strike date is not September 16th, as I originally thought. It is now slated for AUGUST 16th. What this means is that if this strike goes all the way up to, and possibly canceling, the World Series, then last night's game will be the last game I … Continue reading Sports Bore

You Give Me Irritability

Games – just one big irritation! Ain't scientists great? There they are in their labs with beakers pipettes and electrodes that measure all kinds of stuff. Well, do you know what the eggheads have come up with now? Do ya, huh? Wait for it"Video games cause irritability! I know, I know, it's all revolutionary stuff. Thank God for scientists, otherwise we'd never have known that. It seems the boffins at Tokyo's Nihon University have conducted a study. In true boffin style, they examined the brain waves of 240 people over several months. The researchers studied the alpha and beta brain … Continue reading You Give Me Irritability

RPGs Come Back Strong

No, this isn't going to be an editorial about having to walk to school in the snow, uphill both ways and how you kids don't appreciate anything, as my grandfather used to always say, again and again. But I did notice that there seems to be a change in the industry. And unlike the downward spiral of the GiNDex, this one is actually pretty cool. We normally try to mix up reviews from different genera's, but over the last few weeks the reviewers have been churning out a plethora of reviews of new games in a specific category. The category: … Continue reading RPGs Come Back Strong

It’s Not My Fault

NO HOLIDAY FOR ME! So I missed a commentary, so what? I never thought that it would result in a tirade, and my good name being attacked by my own editor, for crying out loud! I guess I'll have to explain my entire story to Breeden to make sure he knew what I was going through. To start off, considering it was the 4th of July holiday, I decided that I wanted to spend it back in my hometown, away from all the noise and potential terror attacks that would plague DC. (Go figure the only attack was that gun-toting … Continue reading It’s Not My Fault

Sequel Madness

Let us all rejoice! We have next generation consoles, which should herald a new wave of titles featuring exciting leaps in graphics and game play. Okay, so we got the graphics bit, but when it comes to game play it's just the same old, same old. The fact is there are just too many sequels to mention, as the publishers continue to play it safe. Meanwhile us gamers have to sit with baited breath, waiting for some originality to inject some energy back into the industry. After Metal Gear Solid 2, there comes Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance and after … Continue reading Sequel Madness

Happy July 4th Old Man!

In the United States, this is a holiday weekend. At least as long as you were smart enough or at least able to take the Friday following the July 4th holiday off, which occurred on a Thursday this year. July 4th is the time when we celebrate our independence from England. Sorry Chella, we like England and all, but if we never broke away we would all be speaking, well, English? Ok, but if we never became independent then we would be drinking tea. Well, ok, I do drink a lot of tea. But, we would all love soccer! And … Continue reading Happy July 4th Old Man!

Cute But Deadly

They're cute, but beware sleepless nights I'm tired today play chums. I can barely lift my tired eyelids, and tapping my keyboard is a feat nearing biblical proportions, in my weary state. I am suffering from fevered dreams that allow me only a few fitful moments of sleep. The dreams are the same every night – must break down the wall, get more reds, reds are strong. Oh no, they're falling in the water, drowning, only blues can swim. Must grow more before sundown and leave to flower. Do better tomorrow. I am of course a victim of Pikmin. Play … Continue reading Cute But Deadly

Victory!

Victory is mine! On my last commentary, I was pictured with the caption stating "It's hell inside." Nothing could be more truthful after the ordeal that I got myself into over the weekend. It all started last week when my new barebones computer arrived: a brand new Athlon XP 2000+ with 256 MB of PC 2100 DDR memory and a Gigabyte 7DX motherboard. I ordered it from the same company (Infinity Solutions Plus) because I have a good history with them, and the last computer I ordered from them worked almost flawlessly. After getting the case opened I noticed the … Continue reading Victory!

World Cup Time

The world's gone mad and predictions say it should last at least a month. Gamers the world over are sliding their consoles back under the TV and hanging up their control pads. There's a more important game to be played at the moment and that's the beautiful game of football (or soccer to all those Stateside). Yes folks, it's the World Cup. There is of course the small matter of the United States of the Blissfully Unaware. Er"hello, America! For once your team doesn't totally suck. It's very uncharacteristic for you to miss such a prime flag-waving opportunity. Are you … Continue reading World Cup Time

Back To The PC

Warcraft III, Elite Force II, Freelancer, and of course, DOOM III have tempted me back. Now more than ever it is time for me to return to the realm of PC gaming, a foray I recently have departed from because upgrades were becoming very costly. But as I look back at the PC I own (or should I say, owned after the power supply was fried), I realized that two years is long enough to wait before making a significant upgrade. For a while, having an AMD Athlon 700 PC powered by a Voodoo 3 board and 128 MB of … Continue reading Back To The PC
