It’s been almost 17 years since Blizzard Entertainment has released a brand new IP for a game series. Now it seems that Overwatch is finally seeing the light of day. Revealed for the first time at BlizzCon, the game gets away from their traditional MMO roots and moves into competitive shooter territory. It took a little while for our reviewer to report on Reaper of Souls given the depth of changes to the core Diablo 3 game. With the elimination of the failed auction house, Blizzard smarty puts the emphasis back on the hunt for great loot.
A new report by the Guardian newspaper alleges that GCHQ and the NSA targeted online games and communities, including World of Warcraft and Xbox Live, as part of their anti-terrorism activity. This is the latest revelation from the dossiers leaked to the paper, by Edward Snowden, the ex-NSA employee. According to the article, the spy agencies developed capabilities to collect data from Xbox live and have been going under cover as Orcs and Elves in WoW. After a flawed but ultimately successful run on the PC, Diablo III makes its console debut. And it’s so good there, it almost seems like it should have been a console title to start.
One of the more controversial aspects of the Diablo III game was the auction hall, where players could trade and sell items for either real money or in-game gold. It was only implemented on the PC and Mac versions of the game, and did not make the jump to the console.
