A.K.A. Hey Weather Channel, Haven't We've Had Enough????
Before I get started with my rant this week, I do want to once again say "I hate it when I'm right." When I made my Super Bowl prediction last column, I predicted that Peyton Manning would end up throwing a critical interception for a Saints touchdown. (Well not exactly, as Darren Sharper was stopped at the 5. Still, the following play resulted in a touchdown anyway.)
So what happened? That's right, Manning throws a Pick-6, but instead of Sharper, it was to Tracy Porter. I received a lot of hate mail about my prediction, both via email and on my Youtube account, mostly from a bunch of hurt Colts fans. I'm sorry you're all upset, but hey, the truth HURTS! While I'm at it, I do want to send my congrats to the New Orleans Saints for winning the Super Bowl and proving they're the "Aints" no more!
There was one problem I had with watching the Super Bowl this year. Usually I like to go to a public location such as Dave and Busters to watch the game. Not this year, because Mother Nature decided she wanted to drop nearly 30 inches of snow in the area the day before. As a result, I was grounded at work and forced to watch it there.
But of course the entire time I am staying here, all the channels want to talk about is the freaking snow. CNN even had to promote their "doomsday hysteria" and refer to the event as "Snowmageddon." I don't understand why they have to act like us getting snow is a sign of the apocalypse. Surely they get snow in Atlanta, but they have to get everyone's nerves up!
Getting on the Weather Channel's site is bad enough, because every time I get on there, I see this ugly, smug, Rush Limbaugh lookalike bragging about how great the weather is in their beloved California after gloating about how much snow we are buried under. Why don't you idiots just go move to California and get it over with?
And then there are the local affiliates, and I want to call out one in particular, Fox 5 (WTTG.) First of all, I hate the weather coverage on this channel. They call themselves the "Fox 5 Storm Force" but I replace the "force" with another f word that I prefer not to say in a PG related website. One person in particular, Sue "We Need The Snow" Palka. I am so sick and tired of hearing her say that we need all of this snow as if the DC area is an area of severe drought! It got worse during the day as they kept showing the same coverage over and over again, and even preempting all Fox network programming. That really infuriated me as I wanted to catch the Budweiser Shootout and I missed it because of their storm obsession.
So then the first storm comes to an end, despite Fox 5 et al still acting like it's taking place. But guess what, there's another storm coming, and a blizzard warning, with more doomsday hysteria saying that another 10-20 inches will hit this area! Even worse, it was the day that Bioshock 2 was supposed to come out, messing up any chances for me to get it in the snow! Again the Sue Palkas of the world are getting obsessed with all the snow and making it sound as if there was a nuclear device found in the area. Let's flash forward to Thursday afternoon (when this column is being written.)
I go out to my car, expecting it to be buried, resulting in me spending hours digging it out and getting it on the road. But there are only a few inches on the car, and only on the front side! You have to love the way The Weather Channel and its accomplices lie and exaggerate to get their point across!
Hopefully now that the weather is clearer I can actually get a copy of Bioshock 2. (Certainly not from a certain location we all know, because they'll start that "did you preorder" BS, and you know by my preordering, the game will not arrive on time.) Oh wait, let me check the (In)Accu-Weather app on my Palm Pre first"
It says no precipitation until the 20th. Somehow I doubt that"
*Yes I used the term "Super Bowl." Are the NFL really that anal to sue a bi-weekly column like mine?
**Credit goes to www.theawesomearchfiend.com for bringing Peyton Manning's post season interception troubles to my attention. Thanks so much, Archfiend!
Currently Playing: Bioshock 1 (360)
Waiting For: Bioshock 2 (360, if the weather allows mail to ever go through.)
