New Year’s Resolution 2015
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Beat: October 31
Time: 11 Hours
This game is so well done that it easily shot up to being my favorite entry in the Prime series. Still isn’t as good as the 2D games in my opinion, but it’s dang close. It felt great in terms of gameplay and a lot of the small gimmicks were really freaking fun. Combat was also well done and the corruption system helped balance out the gameplay. I still don’t care for the whole Phazon deal or Dark Samus, but even those elements couldn’t stop this from being a really fun ride.
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Beat: November 16
Time: 37 Hours
I started this game early in the year and then fell away from it for a long time. My first time in I just couldn’t get that into it. When I came back to it this changed. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood for this type of game at the time. I quickly dug into it and completed a lot of the side quest, as well as the main game. Don’t let the collecting trading cards of women by having sex with them deter you. While it’s definitely weird, it’s also optional. It’s a good RPG that has a few problems and is a little dated. Still, I think it’s worth checking out. Also, it has a really cool twist ending.
Titan Quest + Immortal Throne DLC
Beat: November 28
Time: 44 Hours
This one felt like it took forever to complete. I mean, it did take a long time, but it felt longer. I really enjoy these types of games, but find them to be more entertaining with friends. Some day maybe I’ll get around to finishing up some of my other characters that I built to run with other friends. Or maybe I’ll just make all new characters. Either way, this was an enjoyable experience. Also, screw that Albino Spider Queen hero boss in the IT expansion. I kept one of my old saves for this game. It wasn’t too far along (three or four hours). I’ve played through the opening with at least five character while playing with different groups of friends and I really didn’t feel like doing it again.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Beat: December 10
Time: 27 Hours
Wow! The jump in quality between this and the first game is amazing. It looks better, plays better and sounds better than The Witcher hands down. It’s also got a really good story, epic boss fights and the ability load up a save from the first game to keep choices made in it. The Witcher 2 has some minor flaws, but is overall a great game. Small note, that ending cutscene is not worth sitting through 20 minutes of credits (that’s not an exaggeration) for.
Okami
Beat: December 26
Time: 27 Hours
This was a wonderful way to finish out the year. There’s so much charm to this game and it’s a real joy to play. It’s art style alone makes it stick out in all the right ways and the adventure is definitely one worth taking. This should be a must play on any gamer’s list. It’s really just that good and unique of a game.
You must be the only person who prefers Desmond to Ezio! That’s bewildering, but horses for courses. Still, I’m impressed by your dedication to the resolution. Hats off to you.
Thanks, Chella. I know I’m a bit weird for preferring Desmond. I guess with that in mind I might really enjoy Watch Dogs. Even if it wasn’t well received.
Wow, you sure played a ton of games! I’d like to make a recommendation for you. Give Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition a try. I’m also a big JRPG fan & although this game wasn’t made in Japan, I think it will appeal to you. It’s become my all time favorite game.
Whatever you play in 2016, enjoy!! :)
I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but I can honestly say I’ve never actually given it a look. I’ll have to do that now with a recommendation like that from a fellow JRPG lover.
Hope you have a wonderful time gaming in 2016 as well!
Thanks! Looking forward to reading a write-up on your time with it!
