Hey all, I’m back with the first entry in a fantasy series for this week’s Bookish Wednesday. It’s “Rise of The Weakest Summoner Book 01” by J. R. Saileri.

Plot: The plot of this starts off pretty slow and also stereotypically, which really put me off this series for a number of years. I finally decided to just bite the metaphorical bullet and power through the series a while back, and I was pleasantly surprised by the story turning out to be decent. That isn’t to say there aren’t issues, however.

Characters: This being the first entry, it introduces the main character, Asterios, who is the weakest summoner in the story. The rest of the characters are pretty great, but Miria does grate at times, and I wanted to throttle her for being naively idealistic at times. Tina in particular was a favorite character, although she’s very much sidelined in this first volume.

Overall: A fairly decent fantasy series, but some of the characters can grate on you at times.

For those who like: Fantasy, weak to strong plots, a great story, and good characters for the most part.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
