Hey all, I’m back with another film starring one of the more frequent comedic actors from when I was young for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Bruce Almighty.
Plot: The premise of the film, that being our main character Bruce gets to be God for a bit was highly entertaining, but it does feature Jim Carrey’s signature sophomoric humor for the most part, so for fans of more sophisticated quality it might be a turn off. So, I’d probably not enjoy the film as much now as I did when I much was much younger when this film released just over two decades ago. Overall, the plot wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t bad either. It just was predictable.
Casting: Jim Carrey is the titular main character and does an amazing job at it, but there are some other actors who did a great job in this film including the lesser known at the time Steve Carell. Morgan Freeman portraying God was awesome and frankly most of the cast were also great.
Cinematography: The special effects were pretty good, but not outstanding or spectacular in any particular way.
Music: It fits the movie and its comedic tones well.
Overall: A fun movie with a younger Jim Carrey and some other really good actors including Morgan Freeman and Steve Carell. Its humor can be sophomoric, so it’s not going to be for everyone.
For those who like: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, and a Great Cast.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
