Hey all, I’m back with another sci-fi film for this week’s Movie Monday that was the movie of the summer back in the day. It’s Independence Day.
Plot: The plot for Independence Day is pretty decent. It’s a thrilling plot and is well done with the story taking place over a couple days in 1996 when aliens invade and begin hovering over various cities around the world. Things go downhill from there, and it’s up to the humans to find a way to fight back.
Casting: The cast is full of big names like Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Mary McDonnell, and Will Smith. There are plenty of others, and they all did a great job. Bill Pullman in particular gives one of the best movie speeches of all time declaring for the world that, “This is our Independence Day!” right before the big battle that will decide the fate of the Earth.
Cinematography: The special effects were awesome at the time of release. They won an Academy Award, so it was pretty great in its time and still looks good today.
Music: Like most summer sci-fi blockbusters, Independence Day featured an amazing soundtrack, although most people probably forgot it because of all the action taking place on screen.
Overall: A very good film if not quite up to my own personal standards.
For those who like: Sci-fi, action, thrillers, drama, a great cast, and excellent cinematography.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
