Hey all, I’m back with a rather recent film for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Wicked Little Letters.

Plot: The plot of the movie is actually based on a true story that took place just after World War I. This dark comedy film is about a woman named Edith Swan during the 1920’s in the town of Littlehampton in England. Played by Olivia Colman, Edith and other residents of the town receive wicked letters full of swearing. Her neighbor Rose Gooding, an Irish immigrant and mother, is the suspected author of the letters due to her well-known use of profanity. Honestly, the whole film is just wonderfully done.

Casting: The entire cast is great but is really held up by the main characters of Edith and Rose. As mentioned previously, Edith is played by Olivia Colman, and Jessie Buckley is Rose.  Another standout performance is that of Gladys, a female constable played by Anjana Vasan. Her character is investigating the letters and struggling for recognition in an era full of misogyny.

Cinematography: There are no real special effects honestly, but the camerawork is superbly done, nonetheless.

Music: The music fits the film perfectly.

Overall: A very fun film, although probably not something you should watch with kids around because of the frequent profanity.

For those who like: Comedy, Drama, True Stories, Excellent Plot, and a Great Cast.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
