Hey all, I’m back with a cult classic for the Nintendo DS from back in the day for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s Elite Beat Agents.

Plot: The plot revolves around a team of elite agents of some government agency who through dance and song bring peace to those around them by helping them overcome various crises. Honestly, the entire premise is incredibly silly, but it works for Elite Beat Agents. It does culminate in an impressive climax, but I won’t spoil it since it was actually somewhat impressive for this story.

Gameplay: It’s one of the first touch-based rhythm titles ever made and was well done, even if I personally am massively bad at that entire gameplay type. I can’t ever really hold a beat.

Artwork: The artwork is done manga or comic style and is pretty good. Due to its nature as 2D art, it mainly has aged very well since then.

Music: The music was what set it apart, but frankly I don’t remember much of it myself. I just remember the frustration of trying Elite Beat Agents and constantly failing.

Overall: A solid title and a cult classic for a reason.

For those who like: Rhythm Games, Music, and Silly Plots.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
