Hey all, I’m back with a first-person shooter game from 2000 for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s The Operative: No One Lives Forever.

Plot: The plot is pretty influenced by 1960’s spy films and television shows with plenty of gadgets and guns for the main character Cate Archer. I won’t spoil the story, but it was pretty decent. And no, it wasn’t a parody like the Austin Powers films despite being remarkably similar in terms of art styles. It was originally released for Windows in 2000 and later ported to the PlayStation 2 and Mac OS X.

Gameplay: The gameplay is a mix between FPS and stealth and mixes it pretty well. Honestly, it’s regarded as one of the better FPS titles after the original Half-Life released.

Art: The art has aged rather poorly since it released.

Music: The music fits it very well, being very 60’s in style.

Overall: A fun game, though the art has not aged well at all.

For those who like: Stealth, first-person shooters, and female lead characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
