Hey all, I’m back with a film I saw fairly recently for the first time for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Blown Away!
Plot: The plot of this movie deals mainly with a bomb disposal tech named Lieutenant Jimmy Dove and an IRA member named Ryan Gaerity that Dove once knew from his own secret past ties with that organization. Frankly, the plot is actually pretty damn good. I’m not generally a big movie fan these days because I usually get a lot more out of reading than watching a movie. That’s why this movie caught me by surprise because it fascinated me enough to put down the book I was reading. I won’t spoil the plot much more other than to say that there are a few emotional moments mixed in with all the film’s action.
Cast: The cast is pretty freaking awesome with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones as our two leads, though the obvious and not well done Irish accents were a bit weird. Still, other than that, they portrayed the insanity of the plot well. The rest of the cast was pretty good, but the show is definitely stolen by Bridges and Jones.
Cinematography: There’s lots of explosions in the film but given how the main plot deals with Jones character being a terrorist bomber, that isn’t surprising. The rest of the movie also looks pretty great.
Music: The music fit the film pretty well.
Overall: The film isn’t perfect, but it has an interesting story. And in my opinion, that can’t be said of a lot of films these days.
For those who like: Action Thrillers, Lots of Explosions (but not directed by Michael Bay), Good Plot, and A Big Name Cast.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
