On Saturday a full trailer for Battlefront II the anticipated sequel to the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront was debuted at Star Wars Celebration. Unlike Battlefront this game will feature a single player campaign, a new story, and feature a new type of hero. The story takes place between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
The Story and Heroes of Battlefront II
The story of Battlefront II is about the heroes of the Empire. As mentioned in the panel at Celebration these heroes include the elite Imperial pilots and the commandos who inspire the legions of stormtroopers on the front lines. It is a unique opportunity to learn about these unsung heroes who risk their lives fighting for the Empire. More importantly the story of Battlefront II is the story of one elite force and their journey following the destruction of the second Death Star at the end of Return of the Jedi. They are seeking revenge for their Emperor at the hands of the Rebellion.
Our new hero is Iden Versio of Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit. Her story along with Inferno Squad will be featured in the campaign. It’s a heroes journey even if the hero is an elite Imperial soldier fighting for her home and everything she knew before the rebellion’s victory at Endor. The game will also feature Iden’s homeworld Vardos. It is also a location in the tie-in book Battlefront II Inferno Squad by Christie Golden, out July 25. Vardos is an Imperial world that willingly joined the Empire. It will be an urban setting that differs from the locations from the first Battlefront. New locations and characters are part of the story but what about gameplay. The panel covered some of the aspects of the game itself, both single and multiplayer.
Single Player and Multiplayer Gameplay
Within the single player there will be chapters and a hero mode. Announced at the panel, both Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren are playable heroes in hero mode.
The multiplayer for Battlefront II will include all eras; the prequels, original trilogy, and new trilogy. There will also be new heroes like Darth Maul. A new aspect of the game is players can upgrade their heroes and troopers. There are different classes, including infantry and officers, and players can unlock new abilities. Along with a new set of troopers players will also have new vehicles and mounts, including tauntauns.
Announced during the panel at Celebration was that the game will feature space battles. The space battles in Battlefront II like the troopers will include ships from all Star Wars eras. These ships are said to have roll and progression. There will also be hero ships that players can upgrade.
Battlefront II releases on November 17 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and is available for pre-order.
