No one knows the exact origin of blackjack. Even though the game itself is likely hundreds of years old, its popularity picked up in the 1700s in France. However, once it made its way over on North American soil, it quickly became one of the most popular card games in American casinos.
From then on, its popularity has only gone up, and it is currently, according to many, the most popular casino game in the world. While you can enjoy online blackjack at one of many gaming sites, did you know that there are several games where you can play it in-game? Here are a few.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar’s 2018 action-adventure game, marked the third entry in the series. The story takes place in a fictionalized 1889 United States, where outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, looks to survive, and perhaps, enjoy a little blackjack.
When he is not busy getting into gunfights, riding around on horseback, or both, you can sit him down to relax at a table at one of four locations. Two are saloons in Rhodes and Blackwater, while the other two are the Van Horn Trading Post, and your camp, where a minigame may show up at random. Winning will net you money. If you are unfamiliar, you play the game against the dealer and not against other participants.
Fallout: New Vegas
New Vegas is a post-apocalyptic RPG published by Bethesda Softworks in 2010. It is not a direct sequel to the Fallout series, but it does use the same engine as Fallout 3. It is the fourth major installment in the series, set in the wastelands of Nevada, California, Utah, and Arizona. Thus, it may be a bit surprising that you can play cards in the game, but that’s what the developers chose to add. Bless them.
It seems like an apocalypse can wipe out many things, but the desire for gambling is not one of them, as, in the aftermath of a world-wide disaster, a few casinos managed to survive. Six to be exact. Each one has slightly different rules and features different payouts. So, it’s nice that you can experience a little gaming variety in a world where there is little hope left, except for that found at the blackjack table.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
We don’t have to go into this one, as any self-respecting gamer has lost hours of their life on this game. Thus, you are likely well-acquainted with its casino.
The storyline unravels in fictionalize versions of California and Las Vegas, both of which have casinos that you can explore.
Even though San Andreas features quite dated blackjack gameplay, don’t fret, as GTA V has a Casino DLC, released in 2019. It is called The Diamond Casino and Resort. At this venue, you can play regular blackjack, or if you opt for VIP status, you can sit at the high-roller table near your Penthouse suite.
