Konami got the jump on E3 Expo by hosting their press event a week early. The half hour long show had many surprises, like a brand new engine for their PES 2014 soccer game. But the big news was the replacement for David Hayter as Snake. For the next game, Snake will be played by Kiefer Sutherland.
Hideo Kojima, director of Metal Gear Solid, spent a good deal of time explaining their decision to go with Sutherland over Hayter, who has held the role for 15 years. Kojima says that only Sutherland could bring the subtle facial animation and voice talent that the new role required, noting that at the time that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set, Snake is 49 years old. This required an older voice.
