Developer Charles Games has announced the release of its environmental card strategy game about fighting climate change called Beecarbonize on Steam. Made with input from climate scientists, Beecarbonize features a dynamic system that reacts to players’ actions and offers unique challenges and paths to victory as well as over 250 cards to discover – including scientific breakthroughs, industry reforms, social advancements as well as climate catastrophes.
Beecarbonize has players balancing the power-generating industry, social reforms, ecological policies and scientificic endeavors. Game cards represent inventions, laws, social advancements, or industries- each designed on the basis of real-world climate science. In addition, partially randomized world events occur forcing players to adapt their strategies. Players can gradually unlock new cards in Beecarbonize’s encyclopedia.
The world of Beecarbonize reacts to the player’s actions. More emissions mean more floods or heatwaves, and investing in nuclear power raises the risk of a nuclear incident and so on. Players learn more as they progress and work towards saving the planet.
Beecarbonize has been nominated for awards such as Apple Design Awards Social Impact Finalist 2023, 2023 Games for Change (Best Gameplay), Big Festival Big Impact: Educational Game Finalist, and as a 2023 Gee! Learning Games Awards Finalist.
