Martyn Gibbs, former GAME MD and Gamestation boss, is returning as chief executive of the troubled UK retailer, following yesterday’s rescue by investment group, OpCapita.
A popular figure in the UK industry, Gibbs is joined by David Hamid as executive chairman.
"I am delighted to be leading GAME back to success," said Gibbs. "Our immediate priority is to help the GAME and Gamestation teams, so they can give our customers a great Easter in our stores and websites."
GAME’s UK business was bought by Baker Acquisitions, on behalf of OpCapita. The acquisition has reportedly saved 333 GAME and Gamestation stores from closing, as well as safeguarding nearly 3,200 jobs.
"We strongly believe there is a place on the high street for a video gaming specialist and GAME is the leading brand in a £2.8 billion market in the UK," Henry Jackson, MD of OpCapita commented.
GAME is even honouring loyalty card points again, so it’s looking hopeful for UK gamers on the high street again.
