After months of calling their next generation console The Revolution, Nintendo announced today that they are officially changing the name to Wii.
Apparently Wii is pronounced "We" which is supposed to show that anyone can play with the new console. Nintendo said that one of the reasons for the name switch was because "Wii" is easily recognizable in any language. Also the double "ii" represents the two remote control-like controllers that will ship with the console.
In a brief note posted on their Website, they explain in one sentence why they dropped Revolution, which was an extremely popular name among gamers.
"While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer."
