DreamCatcher Games and the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) today announced NVIDIA Corporation as the title sponsor for the $25,000 NVIDIA "Painkiller" 1-on-1 Deathmatch Tournament at the upcoming Cyberathlete Extreme World Championships in Dallas, Texas.
Overwhelming demand prompted an increase in number of competitors, bringing the final number to 64 and 5 additional waiting list spots. The world's top competitive solo game players have signed up for the tournament, including the #1 player in the world, Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel. Fatal1ty will be challenged by other top-ranked players such as Sander Kaasjager (VoO), Christian Dotzki (Deatz), Daniel Sturdivant (carnage), Roman Tarasenko (Polosatiy) and Sean Price (daler). VoO and Deatz recently battled in the finals of the first Pkeuro.com Duel Competition. VoO was crowned the victor and is a popular favorite to challenge Fatal1ty for the "Painkiller" title at the Cyberathlete Extreme World Championships.
"'Painkiller's' status in the multiplayer gaming community keeps on growing," says Richard Wah Kan, CEO of DreamCatcher. "Having NVIDIA back the tournament, and having Fatal1ty compete in the NVIDIA ‘Painkiller' 1-on-1 Deathmatch Tournament demonstrates how this game has caught the attention of the best players in the world."
The NVIDIA "Painkiller" 1-on-1 Deathmatch Tournament carries a total cash purse of $25,000 USD. The top eight finalists will all receive cash prizes.
