For the third year in a row, the Ottawa International Game Conference (OIGC) is back! Game developers, artists and business leaders from around the region and the world will be converging at the National Arts Centre (NAC) from May 25th – 27th to experience over 40 sessions of best practices and case studies, networking events, a trade show, demo zone and more. This year promises to be the best so far, with over 500 attendees expected and a rooftop party under the stars. This year also has a deeper focus on the innovations emerging from Indie Gaming, with its own track for the conference.
“The gaming world changes so quickly that we have a huge challenge every year to have the most relevant topics, speakers and themes to ensure we provide the best learning and networking experiences possible,“ said Scott Simpson, CEO of bitHeads/Playbrains. “The show is growing every year and we are fast becoming one of the biggest and most important gaming shows in Canada”.
This year’s conference features three tracks: Business, Game Development and Indie. The Business Track will cover everything from financing a studio to monetizing games on various platforms, while the Game Development Track will cover all aspects of development and creative needed to make an incredible game. The Indie Track is a newer addition to the conference, and will bring together amazing talent and inspiration from the indie game community.
“I am so proud of what we have been able to achieve with the OIGC,” said John Criswick, CEO of Magmic. “International studios like Ludia, Ubisoft and Eidos will be participating in this year’s event. Not only will these major gaming studios be attending the event, but they are also sponsoring, recruiting talent, and showcasing their games. This participation is an amazing accomplishment for a conference in only its third year, and showcases the flourishing gaming community in Ottawa.”
“The Conference has become the key event of the year for the Game Development Sector in Ottawa- Gatineau, and I don’t think many local industries can claim a greater degree of passion in their field. More than just a business and technology event, OIGC helps build the connective tissue of our community,” said Sean MacPhedran, Group Planning Director of Fuel Youth.
