Report stating Sony PlayStation Store Due Back on May 24

Sony plans to bring its PlayStation Store online on Tuesday, May 24, according to a report published on Thursday. Gamasutra said it had obtained a memo that Jack Osomo, PSN content manager for Sony, wrote to its developer partners.

In the memo, Osomo revealed that the PlayStation Store, which houses the company’s demos, its downloadable content packs, and its video rental services – should be online by May 24, barring unforeseen difficulties.

For publishers, that means that they will be able to push out content that had been delayed by the PlayStation Network outage, which is in a phased process of being brought back online. The entire United States now has access to the PSN’s multiplayer services, but the Store remains down and with it gamer access to the "Welcome Back" free games and movie rentals Sony promised as compensation for the outage.

Sony has also asked users to download a mandatory firmware update that will apparently help to secure the system. That update also requires users to change their passwords. Sony took down the PlayStation Network briefly, however, after a flood of password resets flooded its servers. Content that was originally scheduled to go live on April 26 will now be pushed on May 24, with subsequent launches of content every few days until June 3, Gamasutra reported.

"If there are concerns, we are willing to consider adjusting the release date of your content on this schedule," Osorno said, as quoted by Gamasutra. "Adjustments will be made on a case by case basis."

As of press time, Sony had neither confirmed nor denied the Gamasutra report on its PlayStation blog. Can I only hope this is correct?
