PopCap Games, the worldwide leader in casual video games, today announced that longtime business and industry veteran Rick Fox has joined the company’s board of directors. Mr. Fox becomes the seventh member of PopCap’s board and the third outside member, joining independent investor Larry Bowman and Tech Data chairman Steve Raymund. Mr. Fox also sits on the boards of other leading technology firms, including Orbitz Worldwide, as well as the boards of non-profit, civic, healthcare and academic organizations.
"We’re very happy to have Rick join our board of directors, where his decades of entrepreneurial and technology industry leadership will help us take PopCap to the next level," said PopCap CEO David Roberts. "From operations to product development, finance, marketing and sales, Rick has been involved in virtually every aspect of many successful firms throughout the technology, manufacturing and other business sectors. His forty years of experience growing successful global companies will be invaluable as we grow into one of the top five publishers in the video game industry."
"PopCap’s on the fast track to success and has assembled a stellar roster of both senior executives and seasoned outside board members – and I’m pleased to help guide such an exciting organization," Fox said. "No other video game company has enjoyed such a combination of critical and commercial success in the past 10 years, not to mention growing from three to more than 300 employees worldwide while maintaining profitability the entire time. I’m looking forward to helping PopCap continue and expand upon this unparalleled track record."
Mr. Fox spent nearly 30 years at consulting giant Ernst & Young, most recently as managing partner of the firm’s Seattle offices overseeing and guiding numerous technology and software companies. After leaving Ernst & Young, Mr. Fox held C-level positions with several technology ventures, including Wall Data and CyberSafe Corporation. He sits on the boards of numerous companies including Orbitz, Premera Blue Cross, and Flow International. Mr. Fox holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Ohio University and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. Mr. Fox and his wife live on Mercer Island (WA) and have two children and three grandchildren.
In addition to Messrs. Raymund, Bowman, and Fox, PopCap’s board now comprises CEO Roberts and co-founders Jason Kapalka (Chief Creative Officer), Brian Fiete (Technology Fellow) and John Vechey (VP of Corporate Strategy and Development), all of whom continue to hold senior management roles at the company.
