What Can Gamers Expect from Marvel’s Blade by Developer Arkane Lyon?

There’s a new title that’s generating plenty of buzz in the gaming community, and we’re obviously talking about Marvel’s Blade. Announced on the 7th of December 2023 with a cinematic trailer during The Game Awards 2023, it will be developed by Arkane Lyon. This studio brought us incredible titles like Dishonored and Deathloop, which is why fans have high hopes that they will create another historical masterpiece, this time about the titular character – Blade.

The History and Popularity of Blade in Pop Culture

This new gaming venture is not a surprising one as the vampire genre has continuously enjoyed plenty of popularity, especially when it comes to the video game industry and online games at large. For instance, we can take a look at new online slots available in digital casinos. Here you’ll find games like Immortal Romance, which feature supernatural elements such as vampires. So, before we get into what we can expect from the game, we’d like to discuss the portrayal of Blade in media a little bit further.

Back in the day, comic books didn’t enjoy the same level of widespread popularity as they do now. As such, the majority of people found out about the epic antihero that is Blade via the Blade movie released in 1998. Here, he was portrayed by actor Wesley Snipes, and the popularity of the first movie led to the creation of the Blade trilogy and franchise.

This franchise included various other adaptations, including a TV show and multiple video games. Most recently, Blade, played once again by Wesley Snipes, made a cameo appearance in the 2024 movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Moreover, if you haven’t met this character before, we’d recommend checking him out in advance as there is a confirmed reboot of Blade, this time as part of the MCU. While many were hopeful Snipes would reprise the role, Mahershala Ali will play the character instead, and we expect that he’ll do as great of a job as his predecessor.

What We Know So Far

Now onto what we know about this upcoming Blade video game. As expected, the game will follow Eric Brooks, known by his alias Blade, a dhampir who hunts vampires and other supernatural creatures. The game will be set in modern Paris, more specifically a quarantine zone in the middle of the city where civilians are forced to take shelter until sunrise due to the vampires inhabiting the city.

This setting is unprecedented for the video game adaptations of this character, which makes it even more exciting. Especially when considering that the creative director, Dinga Bakaba, stated in an X post that they’ll be creating their own crazy version of Paris. Moreover, from this post, we’ve learned that it is expected to be a single-player, immersive sim game. As an immersive sim, it is not surprising that it will be narrative-driven, but what is surprising is that it will be a third-person title. Especially as Arkane Lyon is known for the first-person perspective games.

If you’re wondering which devices the game will be available on, this will be up to the publishers Bethesda Softworks. At this moment in time, it has not been confirmed whether it will be exclusive to Windows and Xbox consoles or not.

As it stands, the details regarding the gameplay are still scarce as the trailer only provided insight into the graphics expected. And while there is plenty of anticipation when it comes to the aforementioned game, we’ll likely have to wait a few more years before we can enjoy the game as they’ve only started developing it recently.
