Sony Confirms Gamers’ Credit Card, Personal Data Stolen From Network

If you’ve used the PlayStation Network to purchase games or buy any gear, your credit card and personal information may have been stolen by hackers. Sony finally came clean as to the extent of the network breech that has brought down the PlayStation Network for over a week. And the news is not good. PlayStation Network Outage Continues, Sony Admits Hack

Five days and counting. That’s how long the PlayStation Network has been down. Today Sony confirmed that an external security breech was the cause of the problem. Sony has now said that "an external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services" which warranted shutting down the entire network to investigate. Sony posted an update on its blog, stating that additional security was being built into the network, and thanking gamers for their patience. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) today announced it is introducing a new streamlined rating process for games that will only be sold and downloaded through console and handheld storefronts such as Microsoft Xbox LIVE Arcade, Nintendo Wii or DSi Shop and Sony PlayStation Store.
