Valve recently announced the Steam Dev Days conference, which will be held in Seattle, Washington in January, 2014. Steam Dev Days is a by invitation, two-day conference where video game professionals can meet in a relaxed, off the record environment to share design and industry expertise, participate in roundtable discussions, and attend lectures by industry veterans. Topics will include game economies, virtual reality, Linux/OpenGL, user-generated content, and more. Since the Steam Workshop launched in October of 2011, over 1,200 items created by members of the community have been made available for sale in Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2, producing over $10 million in royalties paid to item creators.
