Hey all I’m back with another Audiobook from the good folks at Audible. It’s The Singularity Trap by Dennis E. Taylor!
Plot Synopsis: If it were up to one man and one man alone to protect the entire human race – would you want it to be a down-on-his luck asteroid miner? When Ivan Pritchard signs on as a newbie aboard the Mad Astra, it’s his final, desperate stab at giving his wife and children the life they deserve. He can survive the hazing of his crewmates, and how many times, really, can near-zero g make you vomit? But there’s another challenge looming out there, in the farthest reaches of human exploration…
Plot: I really wanted to enjoy this book, but sadly it didn’t live up to expectations at all. Which is a pity because the authors previous and debut series, the Bobiverse, was excellent, though very different in terms of style.

Characters: Honestly it felt like all the charm of Bob was completely absent from Ivan. I couldn’t connect to him at all compared to how I connected with the various incarnations of Bob. The rest of the cast is equally hard to relate to.
Voicework: The only bright point was Ray Porter’s narration which was as excellent as ever.
Overall: Not a must listen to, while the narration is excellent, the story itself leaves a lot to be desired.
For those who like: sci-fi, thrillers, great narration.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, or less than stellar plot.
