Hi all I’m back with the latest DLC for Dark Souls III! It’ll be a shorty, but a goodie for this review! It’s my Ashes of Ariandel review!
Plot: From what I can gather from the sparse information of this DLC, we enter a painting that holds a small pocket dimension where the world of Ariandel resides. Personally I can’t make heads or tails of the Dark Souls series anyway, so I wasn’t any more confused then usual.
Gameplay: Ashes is Dark Souls III to the core, and while there are new enemies and items to collect, it really wasn’t a game changing experience. That being said, Souls fans will be ecstatic with the game as it provides some of the most intense gameplay I’ve ever had.

The DLC starts with a bang almost immediately, and I had a difficult time dealing with the new enemies for a while. Especially the new enemies that disguise themselves as trees.
There is one downside to this DLC and that is that there were only two bosses that I faced and while they were tough it was just a matter of time and lots of effort to defeat them. There may be more bosses, but I didn’t encounter them in my playthrough of the new areas.
Art and Music: Nothing really different from the main game, just with a lot more snow theme.
Overall: For Souls fans, Ashes of Ariandel is going to be a small, but rich experience to enjoy.
